Book Walk

The Boulder Junction Public Library will be offering a Book Walk beginning Saturday, July 15, 2023. The book walk will be spread out from the library Reading Garden over to the Boulder Junction park and playground and around the ball field.

A Book Walk is a fun, educational activity that places a children’s story (literally a book taken apart) along a popular walking route in a community. Conceived as a way to inspire parents, teachers, and caregivers to take young children out of doors for physical activity and to learn, a Book Walk helps build children’s interest in reading while encouraging healthy activity for both adults and children.

The library will have laminated 2-page spreads of the book mounted on stands. The Book Walk will begin at the library’s Reading Garden then continue to the skate park and on to the playground and ball field walking trail. There will be arrows on stands where needed to point readers in the right direction to the next stand.

The book the library has chosen for the Book Walk is The Berenstain Bears Go Out for the Team by Stan and Jan Berenstain. When backyard sluggers Brother and Sister join the Bear Country Cub League, they get real uniforms and play on a baseball field. They also have pressure to win and competition from the other cubs. But it’s Mama’s advice that helps them prepare sensibly for team sports. This classic Berenstain Bears story is a grand slam way to teach children about nerves and healthy competition!
