June 8 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Boulder Junction Public Library welcomes the public to view their June 2023 “Art in the Library” exhibit featuring photography by David Barnhill. The public is also invited to meet the artist at a reception to be held on Thursday, June 8 from 6-8 pm in the library. David will be giving a presentation about his photography at 7 pm. The reception is free, and refreshments will be served.
David’s passion is to reveal nature’s art in the Northwoods. He uses a wide variety of styles to create fine art photography of the Deep North: unique images of sunsets and waterfalls, natural abstractions, atmospheric mood photography, minimalism, digital painting, astrophotography, flower photography, and black-and-white photography. The last two years, David’s photographs were selected to be part of the Northern National Art Competition at Nicolet College, this year one of his photographs was selected to be part of the Association of Wisconsin Artists State Exhibit, and his art is on display in local art galleries.
David fell in love with nature photography when he began backpacking in the Sierras and was exposed to the art of Ansel Adams. But he was kept from pursuing his own photography because of his career as a professor. He taught a wide range of subjects: American nature writing; religion, art & nature in China; environmental philosophy; and Japanese religions and literature. And he served as Director of Environmental Studies at U.W. Oshkosh.
In 2021, after David retired and moved to the North Woods, he finally began to pursue nature photography. He lives in the pine woods in Hazelhurst with his artist wife and golden retriever.
