Invasions on our Lakes! How Invasive Species affect the Environment
August 7 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
The Boulder Junction Public Library presents “Invasions on Our Lakes! How Invasive Species Affect the Environment” with Jacob Worden from the Vilas County Land and Water Conservation Department, on Wednesday, August 7, 2:30pm, at the Boulder Junction Community Center, 5392 Park Street.
Different plants and animals not from around here have been introduced to our lakes and have disruptive consequences on other native species and the local environment. But how exactly did some of these species get here? What specific impacts do they have on our lakes and what are we doing about it? This presentation will outline the invasives species and what you can do to help prevent the spread of invasive species in our lakes.
Jacob Worden is a university student working with the Vilas County Land and Water Conservation Department. He reaches out to the public and talks about invasive species in our region and conservation. Much of his work includes presentations and creating videos for the County. Jacob is new to the area having just moved here from the Madison area a few months ago.
The Vilas County Land and Water Conservation Department works to protect water quality and soil erosion in the county. They do this through data collection, public outreach and education, and environmental projects. They believe it is important that our lakes and streams are clean because they’re part of our way of life and bring a lot of people to this area. They have a variety of programs which work with private landowners to create plans to further protect the water and land on their property. More information about the department can be found on their website at https://www.vilascountywi.gov/departments/services/land_water_conservation/index.php.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For questions and further information, please call the library at 715-385-2050 or email [email protected].
