Northern Waters Genealogical Society
January 3 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Northern Waters Genealogical Society invites you to their next meeting on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, 2-3 pm, at the Boulder Junction Community Center, 5392 Park Street. A short business meeting will follow the presentation.
This month’s program is “Phalanx : a Wisconsin Utopian Experiment” featuring Jack Steinbring by recording courtesy of the Ripon Historical Society. In 1844, the Wisconsin Phalanx, a group of followers of the 19th-century French socialist philosopher Charles Fourier, organized a communal settlement there known as Ceresco. It was disbanded in 1851 and absorbed in 1853 by the adjacent settlement of Ripon which was founded in 1849. Who were these members? What artifacts did they leave behind? Do descendants remain in the area?
The late Jack Steinbring graduated from the University of Minnesota with his PhD in 1975. Jack worked as an Archeologist for the University of Winnipeg from September 1, 1963 to January 1, 1990. He was also a member of the Ripon Historical Society, Princeton Historical Society, Wisconsin Archeological Society, Mid-American Geographic Foundation, and Manitoba Historical Society.
This program is free and open to the public. All persons interested in genealogy and family history, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to attend. For questions, please call 715-686-7339.
