Understanding Time and Place by Finding, Using, and Creating Historical Overlay Maps

The Northern Waters Genealogical Society invites you to their next meeting on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, 2-3 pm, at the Boulder Junction Community Center, 5392 Park Street with a Zoom option available. A brief business meeting will follow.

This month’s program is “Understanding Time and Place by Finding, Using, and Creating Historical Overlay Maps” with speaker David McCorkle via Zoom. Learn how to use websites and software to overlay old maps on top of modern maps to help understand where and how your ancestors lived.

David McCorkle is a Genealogical researcher, Speaker, and Website Developer. In his spare time, he is President and founder of North Carolina Historical Records Online. Its mission is to provide public online access to images of original records and other relevant information useful to researching North Carolina history and genealogy.

David has presented various topics at meetings of the National Genealogical Society and numerous state and county genealogical and historical organizations, and to the staff of the State Archives of North Carolina. He is president of the Durham-Orange Genealogical Society, on the board of the Wake and Mecklenburg County Genealogical Societies, and a member of several other North Carolina societies, as well as a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG).
