Unlocking Notation Codes on Alien Passenger Lists – Genealogy Meeting
May 2 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Northern Waters Genealogical Society invites you to their next meeting on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 6-7 pm, at the Boulder Junction Community Center, 5392 Park Street. A short business meeting will follow the presentation. This will be a hybrid meeting allowing participants to attend in person or by Zoom.
This month’s program is “Unlocking Notation Codes on Alien Passenger Lists” featuring speaker Elizabeth Williams Gomoll presenting virtually on Zoom. Finding an immigrant’s name on a passenger list is exciting, but there’s more information on that sheet than you might expect. Learn what the cryptic abbreviations and number codes jotted on U.S. customs manifests can reveal about an immigrant’s experience when they arrived in “Amerika.”
Elizabeth Williams Gomoll began researching her family in 1977. Then she began researching her friends’ families and attending workshops, conferences, and institutes. Those decades of study and experience helped her earn her Certified Genealogist credential from the Board for Certification of Genealogists.
Elizabeth Williams Gomoll is co-editor of Minnesota Genealogist, the quarterly journal of the Minnesota Genealogical Society and immediate past-president of the Association for Professional Genealogists Northland Chapter and has served on numerous boards and committees.
To affirm a truthful approach to genealogy, deserve the trust of her clients, and treat historical records and all others in the field with respect, she abides by the codes of ethics established by the Board for Certification of Genealogists and the Association of Professional Genealogists.
This program is free and open to the public. All people interested in genealogy and family history, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to attend or view from home. For questions or to register for the Zoom link, please call 715-686-7339.
