Food for Fines

In honor of the holiday spirit, the Boulder Junction Public Library is giving patrons who owe fines the opportunity to reduce or erase them while helping out those in need at the same time. This is a unique chance for patrons to return long overdue items without worrying about the burden of paying the fines or to clear their record if it is blocked because of fines.

For each non-expired, non-perishable canned good brought in during the months of November and December, the library will waive $1 or any part of $1 owed in overdue fines. The Food for Fines program cannot be applied to fees from lost or damaged materials or fines from other libraries.

Simply bring your canned goods to the library during regular business hours starting November 1. Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10 am to 1 pm and Tuesday and Thursday 10 am to 7 pm.

The library will be giving the donated items to the Community Food Pantry. The Community Food Pantry, located next to the Community Church of Boulder Junction, serves our neighbors in need across western Vilas County. Food is distributed each Thursday. Hours alternate between mornings and afternoons. They distribute food from the Emergency Food Assistance Program, as well as food purchased from Second Harvest and food purchased or donated from other sources.

Even if a patron does not owe any fines, they can still bring canned goods to the library to be donated to the Community Food Pantry. During winter, the need is always great.
