January Art in the Library

The Boulder Junction Public Library welcomes the public to view their January Art in the Library exhibit featuring a posthumous show of Susan Klein’s artwork. All artwork in the exhibit is available for sale.

In 2010, Sue Klein retired from the Madison Public Schools and the UW-Madison after a 35-year career of teaching art. She, and her husband Jack, moved to Natural Lakes (a homeowner’s owner association between Boulder Junction and Presque Isle) where they designed and built both a home and a creative space to pursue their artistic interests in this beautiful and pristine Northwoods setting. Sue primarily worked in acrylics, watercolor and ink, and ceramics; and her art reflected her love and respect for the “critters” who visited their home and shared the beauty, joy, and humor she always saw in the natural world around her.

Sue earned a master’s degree in Education and a second master’s in Fine Arts (specializing in drawing) from UW-Madison, and she was an enthusiastic supporter and encourager of artists, from elementary students through retired adults. She also loved kayaking, baking, reading, swimming, and taking nature photos to use as references in her work. She brought a positive energy, joy, and enthusiasm to everything she did.

Sue was an active member of the Lakeland Art League and was on their Board of Directors. She was also integral in starting the Art in the Library program at the Boulder Junction Library, and was the featured December artist for many years. Sue passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2023 as she was preparing for her library art show. Her family is honoring her lifelong love for the arts and artists with a posthumous show of her work as January’s artist of the month.
