Northwoods Seed Exchange

The Northwoods Seed Exchange is a program the North Lakeland Discovery Center began in 2022 targeting our garden lovers, inner botanists, and green thumbs. This program’s goal is to create an easy, fun way to share the joys of gardening and nature and bring our communities together. Come fall, visit your fruits, vegetables, flowers, trees, and native plants to collect their seeds and donate them to our Northwoods Seed Exchange. Then we will have them available, for free, to anyone who’d like to plant them.

You may drop them off to any of our four local libraries, Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters, Winchester, or Presque Isle, as well as the North Lakeland Discovery Center, which all have a drop-off box located inside.

The North Lakeland Discovery Center’s drop-off box and collection is located inside the new Discovery Center. Come check out the Northwoods Seed Exchange kiosk in Discovery Hall to learn more about the program and seed collection, and take a look around our brand new facility and nature center! We encourage everyone to participate, collaborate, and ask questions if you need help! Below are some resources for seed collection and planting.
