Important Staffing Update

The library announces the retirement of Library Director Cherie Sanderson, marking a 23-year career at the library that has profoundly enriched our community. Sanderson was hired in the role of Director in July of 2002. Sanderson will retire February 27, 2026.

The Library Board of Trustees expresses their deep gratitude for Sanderson’s dedication and visionary leadership. “Cherie has left an indelible mark on our library and our community. Thanks to her vision and unwavering commitment, the library will remain a resource center of engagement, lifelong learning, literacy, and open access for all ages groups now and into the future” stated Laura Sass, President of the Board of Trustees.

Under Sanderson’s direction and guidance, the Boulder Junction Public Library has grown and transformed in many ways including a new Community Center & Library building, the successful navigation through the Covid-19 pandemic, expansion of programs and services, technology updates to meet the changing needs of the community, increased library summer hours, adequate funding from multiple sources, and the award of a grant to add a book bike to the library’s outreach services.

Sanderson will retire February 27, 2026, and the Board of Trustees has promoted Library Assistant, Kate Frisk, to Assistant Director to support this transition. Kate was hired as Children’s Program Assistant in 2023 and was promoted to Library Assistant in 2024. She already has her Public Librarian Certificate and has demonstrated strong leadership skills and outstanding work.
